Paris in the Days of Rome

It is no secret that I love Paris. It truly is one of the beautiful places of the world, with unforgettable places seemingly scattered throughout the city, mesmerizing landmarks, incredible food, and beautiful gardens. Despite having gone there numerous times, and remembering trips there since 1982, I still always long to go back. A part of me probably feels like Paris is home.

Paris is also a city steeped in history. It might seem obvious enough, when you see something like the Arc de Triomphe, for example, which was designed to be a monument to the glory of Napoleon. Or clearly, when you see the Louvre Museum, which used to be the royal residence of French monarchs. Or, for that matter, a church like Notre Dame, which dates back well over 850 years old now.

Yet, much of this history remains hidden. It might be easy to forget that this city dates back to Roman times, and that it even still has some Roman ruins. There just are not many of the ruins left to remind you.

However, this video below attempts to reconstruct what the city evidently looked like thousands of years ago, during Roman times.
