Today is Republic Day in Turkey (Turkish: Cumhuriyet Bayramı). This Turkish holiday commemorates the proclamation of the Republic of Turkey 99 years ago on this day, on 29 October 1923.
Much like what we see here in the United States on the Fourth of July, or across Canada on July 1st, or in France on the 14th of July, there will be celebrations and fireworks all across Turkey on this day. Most likely, there are wild fireworks displays going off there right now as I write this!
So let us honor Turkey on this day, the 99th anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Turkey!
