NFL 2025 Christmas Games Preview

Three NFL games will be played on Christmas this year.

As it turns out, some fans are boycotting the games this Christmas. Apparently, there is finally a backlash to all of the different games and streaming services which you can watch the games on.

And you know what?

I think that they have a point. Thanksgiving is the traditional holiday associated with watching football. It feels a bit presumptuous that the NFL assumes it can just schedule three games for this holiday, and expect it to be a huge success. And again, if you wanted to watch all three games, you would need to have a subscription to Netflix and Amazon Prime.

It's too much. This, from a sports league that had tax exempt status until just a few years ago, and which still engages in practices which are...well, suspect.

So I will count myself as one of the people who will make a point of not watching any NFL games this Christmas, as a matter of principle.

That said, I will still write the preview.

Here goes:

Washington at Dallas - These two teams are both eliminated from playoff contention. So no playoff relevance at all in this one. The Cowboys just lost at home to the Chargers, while the Commanders ended their massive losing streak by beating the G-Men at the Meadowlands. Not sure how either team will respond. But the 'Boys feel like the better overall team, and they also have home field advantage. That makes me feel like they should win.. My pick: Dallas

Detroit at Minnesota - The Lions are not making me feel particularly confident right now. They just don't look that good, do they? It feels like they have been...well, meh, all season long. Nowhere near as good as they seemed to be in the two or even three prior seasons, when they seemed to be a team on the rise and heading towards something special. But they never got to the Super Bowl, and this year, it seems like even the playoffs are unlikely. Plus, the Vikings are quite hot. Still, I have to think that these Lions have some fight in them left, don't they? Not feeling super confident about this pick, but I will go ahead and pick the Lions to win and keep their flickering playoff hopes alive...for now. My pick: Detroit

Denver at Kansas City - The Chiefs have looked awful towards the end of this season, have they not? Without Mahomes behind the helm, it seemed that they could not even be competitive against the lowly Titans. The Chiefs have lost six of their last seven games now. Granted, they have home field advantage in this one, but the Broncos have a lot more riding on this one. Denver needs to win now to try and wrap up the AFC West, as well as keeping their hopes for home field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs alive. So expect the Broncos to find a way to win. My pick: Denver
