Seattle Seahawks 38, LA Rams 37 (OT)
What a game this one proved to be!
Back and forth. That was particularly true of the fourth quarter.
Yet, it did not seem like it was going that way up until the fourth quarter. The Rams had enjoyed a 30-14 lead in the fourth, and seemed like they were well on their way to a solid road win and, along with that, excellent position to win the NFC West.
Then the Seahawks came alive.
Seattle got hot, scored two touchdowns and managed to tie it. The Rams had an opportunity to win it with a late field goal, but it was no good.
So into overtime this one went.
Once there, it again looked like the Rams were on their way to a win. They marched down the field and scored a touchdown. Seattle would need to score a touchdown of their own, and they would need to go all the way down the field to do it.
That's exactly what they did. Former Jets quarterback Sam Darnold continues to play well since departing Gang Green. He looked like a veteran, calmly leading his team down the field. The call playing was brilliant, and they just kept getting first downs and decent chunks of yardage.
It all culminated in a touchdown. But then came the big decision to settle for an extra point and a tie, or go for two and the win. They went for the win, and won the best.
Ball game.
With the win, the Seahawks now move to sole possession of first place overall in the NFC West as they improve to 12-3. They also lead the NFC in the race for home field advantage. The Rams, meanwhile, fall to 11-4, and are now tied with the 49ers for second in the NFC West. So this game really muddied the waters in the NFC West race, with three teams now having viable hopes for the NFC West division title and, along with it, home field advantage throughout.
One last thing: while I usually am not a huge fan of the new alternative uniforms, the Seahawks green helmets looked really nice to me. Better even than their standard helmets. It might be a good helmet to adopt on a more permanent basis.
What a game this was!
My pick: Accurate
