A lot of people have expressed utter disgust at how Trump responded to the recent death of movie director Rob Reiner.
I will not quote what Trump posted, now include a picture of it here. Frankly, I am so tired of that man and his typically classless and clueless responses to things like this. If some tragedy happens, it is a good bet that Trump will show his usual childish side. And to think that the MAGA morons who follow him claim that their detractors politicize everything.
In short, Trump acknowledged that Reiner had died, and then made the post all about himself.
Surprise, surprise.
He claimed that Reiner had Trump Derangement Syndrome, and that as a result, for all intents and purposes, Reiner deserved what he got. That seemed to me what he was basically saying. It seems I am not alone in that interpretation, because a lot of people seem to be criticizing him about it, and not even just his traditional opponents this time. Even some conservatives seem to have felt that this response was not only unnecessary and unpresidential, but that it marks a serious failing in Trump's character.
Here's one from conservative New York Times columnist Bret Stephens, who has been critical of Trump in the past. However, his criticism went quite a bit further then usual, even, following the president's response of the news of the death of the late actor-director Rob Reiner:
In a Tuesday column, Stephens castigated the commander-in-chief and lamented having to write about Trump, who he called a "petty, hollow, squalid, overstuffed man." He argued that dedicating a column to him was necessary as Trump was, in his words, "the most loathsome human being ever to occupy the White House."
Wish more conservatives would wake up and acknowledge what is blatantly obvious to the rest of the world not in dire fear of the MAGA moron cult response. It is obvious that Trump is unwell and mentally unfit to be in the position he is in. I don't care if enough voters in this country voted otherwise. The fact of the matter is that there is a plague of immaturity and hubris that has grown like a cancer and allowed this man and this cult to take over.
And it's time to acknowledge that it needs to end. Well past time, frankly.
We cannot forget all of this. This is not even unpresidential. It's not an adult's response. This man is a child in almost every way when it comes to how he conducts himself. And we in this country, frankly, need to grow the fuck up.
Sorry to be crass, but it's really tiring, this whole notion of conservatives denying what is, and frankly always has been, blatantly obvious to everyone except the willfully blind and stubborn and the voluntarily ignorant.
Below is the source of both the quote used above, and the story more generally, which I used in writing this particular blog entry:
