On Day of Deadline, Trump Administration Releases Only Some Epstein Files

This is a picture of a magnet that was being sold at Strand's Book Store in New York City a few years ago. No, I did not buy it, but I liked it and took a picture, which I am sharing here now.

Earlier this week, I posted two blog entries from two men, Robert Reich and Pete Buttigieg, where the theme centered around their insistence that Donald Trump is not untouchable or inevitable. That we need to keep the pressure up. That he is, in fact, rather vulnerable. Answerable to the American people.

This is something which I expressed some doubts about, but also voiced a sort of urging to remind myself of this.

Admittedly, I might need these two guys - and anyone else, for that matter - to remind me of his supposedly vulnerability right now.

Look, this was the deadline day for the entirety of the Epstein Files to be released, allegedly. To my mind's eye, that means all of the Epstein Files.

Then we hear that the Trump White House announced earlier today that they are releasing some of the Epstein Files. Obviously, that is a far cry from their allegedly legal requirement to release all of the Epstein Files.

Now, I am not one of those guys whom you might view as a conspiracy theorist. But to me, it sure seems that they are trying to hide something. And you only try to cover up like they are doing now when you are guilty of something.

And you know what?

This kind of reinforces my own sense of inevitability about all of this. Namely, that Trump will get away with this, like he gets away with everything. It will be just the latest thing that he gets away with. And his MAGA moron cult will believe his every word. At this point, I think that they need to in order to justify the increasingly blatantly obvious proof everywhere that their man is far from the hero of the country. That in fact, he is the elite, bloated, and blatantly corrupt power that be which they allegedly are so suspicious of, except apparently when it's right in front of their face, with mountains of irrefutable proof pointing to this fact.

Yes, Trump will get away with this. Mark it down. I am so sure of this, I would be willing to put significant money down on it.

Don't misunderstand me: I hope that I am wrong about this. In fact, there might never have been anything that I hoped more to be wrong about than this. It really feels like this is now a crossroads. If he can get away with this, with involvement in a child sex traffic ring that is worse than "pizzagate" because - well, it's real - then he will be able to get away with literally anything and probably everything.

Worse, he now knows it.  All because his damn supporters are too freaking cowardly to actually hold their man accountable for literally anything that he says or does, or even to look at the truth. According to them, no matter how bad his conduct, there is always a perfectly good and (at least to them) understandable reason for his inexcusable and reprehensible behavior. That is how it gets swept under the rug and forgotten about, until the next day or two, when he does yet something else outrageous or inappropriate which disgraces the country before the entire world. And for history, for which we will collectively be judged harshly. Deservedly so, for that matter.

It's a vicious cycle, and heartbreaking to watch.

What a farce, these enablers who claim Trump is a hero, and that the country is stronger and freer than it has ever been before. The economy has never been better, gas and groceries have never been cheaper, and drug prices have somehow gone down by 600%, which is, of course, a mathematical impossibility.

Keep drinking that disgusting orange Kool Aid.

The political rise of Trump is an absolute tragedy, and it is demonstrably leading to a decline of a great power which we have never seen before. The closest thing that we have seen to something like this in our lifetimes was the fall of the Soviet Union....maybe.

And the kicker?

We're doing it to ourselves. Some of us are jumping in head first completely voluntarily, because they are too immature or stubborn or stupid to even think of any other possibilities.

Trump now is and will continue to be the symbol of the great American decline.
