This came as a mostly unexpected surprise. When I ordered these tickets at the behest of my friend, it was for Almost Queen, whom he really wanted to see. Maybe I saw something about an opening act, because it dimly rang a bell when I found out on the night of the concert that this band would be opening up. For the most part, however, I had admittedly forgotten it.
However, they wound up being very good. Even my friend, who was neither a fan of Billy Joel nor Elton John, was impressed, to the point where he said it would have been worth paying money to see them in concert on their own.
For the most part, I would have to concur. While there was not the same sense of almost being convinced that you could be watching the original acts, as was the case with Almost Queen, they were nevertheless solid. And the shifting pattern of them playing one Billy song followed by an Elton song, then Billy and Elton and so on, worked quite well.
Still, again, there were far more serious differences between the original acts and these guys. Almost Queen sounded like they might have been the original act. They were spot on. By contrast, these guys at times sounded like Elton and Billy, but at other times did not. There were also some mistakes, including a few seconds which really threw me off, which came in the second half of the show.
But hey, nobody's perfect. They nonetheless are a talented group of musicians and provided a fun night. Good rock music played very well, and the crowd really seemed to enjoy it. If you are a fan of Elton or Billy, I would definitely recommend these guys.
Below are some pictures from the show.
Enjoy.
